Why planting trees is important

Trees help restore and protect the environment, reduce the impact of climate change and create a greener planet for future generations.

Planting (lots and lots of) trees around the world is one of the ways to take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, because as trees grow, they absorb and store CO2 emissions. Plus, trees produce oxygen and help purify the air – a single tree can produce approximately 260 pounds of oxygen per year!

Trees offer cooling shade to buildings and houses and block cold winter winds, which can conserve the energy typically used to heat and cool indoor spaces.

The roots of trees can stabilize the soil to prevent erosion, which can protect crop productivity and prevent the pollution of nearby rivers, streams, wetlands and lakes.

Trees improve the nutrients and fertility of soil through nitrogen fixation. Nitrogen is an essential component to the life of plants as it maintains soil nutrients and helps with weed management. Without nitrogen, plants cannot make the proteins that their cells need to grow.

Wildlife and livestock depend on trees for protection, food and shelter.

In short, trees = life!

What does the Eminence Organics Forests For The Future initiative do?

In collaboration with their spa partners, like The Facial Room, Eminence Organics has planted more than 18 million trees in over 22 countries around the world to date.

The Forests For The Future program helps train farmers in developing countries on how to build productive and sustainable crops and farms. Several climate-smart agroforestry practices have been developed and put in practice through the initiative to improve crop yields and revitalize soil health, water use efficiency and carbon storage.

This initiative encourages the development of rural communities and empowers locals to restore their environment, grow their own food and build a sustainable income, which benefits themselves, their families and their communities – for generations to come.

The program focuses on planting specific types of fast-growing trees, fruit trees, hardwoods and food crops. The thousands of trees planted each year provide families with sustainable food sources, livestock feed, products to sell and fuelwood. This has led to a 400% increase in the annual income of participating families.

The Eminence Organics Forests For The Future initiative has reached some amazing milestones to date:

  • Over 200 farming families have been trained and supported, protecting more than 2,000 people from extreme poverty.
  • 82% of the farming families have seen significant income increases, thanks to fruit and nut trees planted by the initiative.
  • Over 400,000 fruit, nut and forestry trees are now planted each year for household consumption and sale.
