If your skin feels tight and looks flat right now, the instinct is to reach for something richer. That is usually the wrong move. Late summer skin is rarely short of oil; it is short of water, and a heavier cream applied to dehydrated skin tends to feel congested rather than comfortable. Getting that one distinction right changes almost everything about what you should be doing between now and September.
I am Patricia Asmar, founder of The Facial Room and a certified esthetician. I have worked with Eminence Organics for more than 26 years, and after a summer of sun, heat, air conditioning and salt or chlorine, I almost never recommend starting over.
What I recommend is a reset: three or four deliberate adjustments to what you already own. Below is exactly how I approach it, and the Eminence Organic Skin Care products I reach for most at this time of year.
What Summer Actually Does to Your Skin
It helps to first know what you are working with, because the visible signs of late summer skin usually trace back to the same three causes.
-
Dehydration, not dryness. These are different things. Dry skin lacks oil. Dehydrated skin lacks water, and heat, sun exposure and air conditioning all pull water out of the skin faster than it is replaced. Dehydrated skin can still feel oily, which is why so many people reach for a heavier cream in August and end up feeling congested rather than comfortable.
-
Uneven tone. Sun exposure stimulates pigment production, and pigment keeps developing for weeks after the exposure itself. This is why the freckling and patchiness you notice in late August often reflects a July afternoon you have already forgotten about.
-
A stressed barrier. Sunscreen, sweat, sand, chlorine and more frequent cleansing all add up. When the barrier is compromised, skin becomes reactive, and products that never bothered you start to sting.
Everything below is built around those three things.
Step One: Rehydrate Before You Do Anything Else
This is the step people skip, and it is the one that changes the most. Before you reach for anything corrective, put water back into the skin.

The Eminence Organics Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Serum is my first recommendation almost every time. Its Botanical Hyaluronic Acid Complex combines multi-weight hyaluronic acid with marshmallow root, and it includes cica, which helps soothe and support the moisture barrier while it hydrates. It is one of our most-loved products for a reason. As one customer wrote in her review on our site, "My skin loves this serum and it smells so nice!"
Apply it to damp skin. This matters almost as much as the product itself.
Hyaluronic acid works by drawing in moisture, so it needs something to draw from. I mist first with the Eminence Organics Stone Crop Hydrating Mist, then apply the serum while my skin is still damp, then seal with a moisturizer. That sequence alone resolves a surprising amount of late summer dullness.
Step Two: Address Tone Slowly
I understand the temptation to go straight to strong exfoliation once pigment shows up. I would ask you not to. Skin coming out of a summer is more reactive than usual, and aggressive resurfacing on a compromised barrier tends to make discolouration look worse before it looks better.

A gentler route is the Eminence Organics Bright Skin Licorice Root Booster-Serum. I like booster-serums because you control the dose. Mix a few drops into your existing moisturizer and build up over several weeks rather than committing to a whole new routine on day one.
If you prefer to work overnight, the Eminence Organics Bright Skin Overnight Correcting Cream does the same work while you sleep, when skin is naturally in repair mode.
Give either of these six to eight weeks. Pigment took months to surface and it will not resolve in a single night.
Step Three: Calm Anything That Feels Reactive
If your skin has been stinging, flushing or reacting to products it normally tolerates, treat that first. Corrective work on an irritated barrier can be a wasted effort.

The Eminence Organics Calm Skin Arnica Booster-Serum is my go-to here, particularly for anyone whose skin runs sensitive year-round. For skin that is more tired than reactive, the Eminence Organics Cornflower Recovery Serum is a lovely lightweight option that supports skin around the eyes and across the face.
Two weeks of calming, then resume corrective work. That order saves people months.
Step Four: Feed the Barrier Overnight
Nights are where the real recovery happens. This is the point in the year when I start moving clients toward something slightly richer at bedtime, without changing their daytime routine at all.

The Eminence Organics Facial Recovery Oil has been a favourite of mine for as long as I have carried the line, and is dubbed “Liquid Gold” by customers for a reason. A few drops pressed over your night cream is enough. If you prefer a balm texture, the Eminence Organics Camellia Glow Solid Face Oil is beautiful and travels well.
Step Five: Keep Your SPF On
I say this every year and I will keep saying it. September and October still carry meaningful UV exposure across Canada, and stopping sunscreen now undoes the brightening work you have just started.
If you are addressing uneven tone, the Eminence Organics Bright Skin Moisturizer SPF 40 lets you protect and correct in one step.
But here is the part almost nobody does, and it matters more than which SPF you choose. Sunscreen applied at 8:00 AM is not still protecting you at 2:00 PM. Reapplication is the step that gets skipped, and I understand why. Very few of us want to put cream over our makeup at lunchtime.
This is why I keep the Eminence Organics Sun Defense Minerals SPF 30 in my bag. It is a mineral powder with zinc oxide, dispensed through a brush, so you sweep it over your face partway through the day without disturbing anything underneath. It comes in six shades, from Sheer, which is translucent, through to Deep, and it protects against blue light as well as UVA and UVB. The finish is matte, which is welcome on a warm afternoon.

A Note on Going Slowly
If I could give you one piece of advice, it is this: change one thing at a time. When someone introduces four new products in a week and their skin reacts, we have no way of knowing which one caused it. Add one product, give it two weeks, then add the next. Your skin will tell you what it needs if you give it room to answer.
If you are not sure where to begin, our Skincare Quiz is a good starting point, or you can book a personalized consultation and we will look at this with you directly. You are also welcome to browse our Eminence Organics cleansers if your cleanser is the piece that stopped working this summer, or our Eminence bundles if you would like a complete routine at a savings of 20-25%.
As Canada's #1 authorized Eminence Organics retailer, with over 1,000 five-star reviews, every order from The Facial Room includes six complimentary samples chosen for your skin, free shipping across Canada on orders over $49, and 5 Glow Rewards points for every dollar you spend. The samples matter especially at this time of year, because they let you try a richer night cream or a new serum before committing to it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best Eminence products for skin after summer?
For most people, hydration comes first. The Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Serum paired with the Stone Crop Hydrating Mist addresses dehydration, which is the underlying cause of most late summer dullness. From there, the Bright Skin Licorice Root Booster-Serum handles uneven tone, and the Facial Recovery Oil supports the barrier overnight.
Is Eminence skin care good for sensitive or reactive skin?
Yes, and this is one of the reasons I have carried the line for over 26 years. The formulas are botanical rather than harsh, and the Calm Skin collection in particular is designed for reactive skin. That said, sensitivity varies. If your skin has been reacting recently, calm it before introducing anything corrective.
How long does it take to see results on uneven skin tone?
Plan on six to eight weeks of consistent use before you judge a brightening product, and keep wearing sunscreen throughout. Pigment develops for weeks after sun exposure, so results often lag behind your effort. Stopping early is the most common reason people conclude a product did not work.
Where can I buy Eminence Organics in Canada?
The Facial Room has been an authorized Eminence Organics retailer since 2000, longer than any other Canadian retailer, and we ship across Canada from our facility in South Surrey, BC. Every product is authentic, stored properly, and sent with six complimentary samples selected for your skin.
Can I use a face oil if my skin is oily or breaking out?
Often yes, and it surprises people. Oily skin is frequently dehydrated, producing extra oil to compensate. A few drops of oil at night over a well-hydrated base can help settle that. Start with two nights a week and see how your skin responds before using it nightly.
Should I stop using sunscreen once summer ends?
No. UV exposure continues through fall and winter across Canada, and it is the single biggest factor in whether brightening work holds. A moisturizer with SPF built in, worn daily, is the simplest way to keep the habit going once beach days are behind you.
